TASK SOSE SEMESTER 1
Stephanie Duphil Hoey 30114610
Learning Task 3: Creative design of a unit of learning
Individually, plan and develop a sequence of lessons and supporting information and materials. The lessons should be designed to achieve specific objectives and to develop a set of skills, understanding and attitudes appropriate to a SOSE topic or theme to be taught at a level from 7 – 12.
It is suggested that this unit be one you plan to teach during your placement. If this is not possible, identify a potential / hypothetical context.
The format of your report may vary but must include as a minimum:
A statement of rationale (the value and reasons for teaching such a unit, an indication of what would precede and follow the unit; its context). You should also outline the theoretical / research basis for the pedagogical and curriculum planning.
An outline of the learning objectives for the unit including reference to relevant VELS / VCE and other outcomes. You should be specific about these – showing where they are addressed and how they will be assessed.
A series of 5 (min) – 8 lessons or sequences of learning activities including objectives, a logical development of learning activities, assessment / evaluation activities, and a description of the instructional or learning resources required.
You may include copies of materials you have developed. This may be done electronically if needed. If you include copies of materials produced by others, make sure relevant reference / citation is completed. If supporting material is bulky (eg posters) please provide a short description / reference. Note – your final report may include additional material you consider might eventually be suitable for that unit. It is not merely a summary of what you did on rounds.
A critical evaluation of how well the unit worked. If not taught, include a critical reflection, anticipating possible problems, successes based on background research. You do not need a lesson by lesson reflection though this may be required for assessment in other units and may be included if you wish.
